On October 30, 2018, Leonard Segal Presented a Minnesota CLE program on Minimizing the Risk of a Successful Retaliation Claim

Leonard Segal frequently presents at continuing legal education programs, helping to educate other lawyers about employment and labor law and other legal matters.  Most recently, on October 30, 2018, Lenny presented as part of Minnesota CLE’s “Taking Attendance – Workplace Leave Obligations & Options.”

Lenny’s session addressed how to minimize the risk of a successful retaliation claim, with a focus on how employers can comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family & Medical Leave Act, various Minnesota leave laws, and the Minneapolis & St. Paul Sick and Safe Time Ordinances.  Although Lenny discussed the elements necessary to state a claim for retaliation, his primary focus was on steps that lawyers and businesses can take to ensure compliance with these laws, to reduce the risk of retaliation against an employee who has asserted his/her legal rights to time off from work, and best practices for employers when needing to discipline an employee for violating workplace rules that are unrelated to the individual’s need for leave.
